How do you add negative numbers?
When adding a negative number to a positive number, you always go nearer the positive side.
Ex:-13+5=-8
-3+6=3
When adding two negative numbers, you always go further into the negative side.
Ex:-2+-5=-7
Define a negative number:
A negative number is a number below zero. It is written with a - in front of it.
Ex:-5
On a number line, negative numbers are written like positive numbers, but in decreasing order.
-5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5
How do you substract negative numbers?
When substracting a negative number from a positive number, the minus cancels out and you just add two positive numbers.
Ex:14–6=20
When substracting a positive number from a negative number,you go further into the negative side.
Ex:-13-6=-19
When substracting a negative number from a negative number, you go closer to the positive side.
Ex:-15–16=1
How do you multiply negative numbers?
When multiplying negative numbers with positive numbers, you always get a negative number.
Ex:-3x4=-12
When multiplying negative numbers with negative numbers, you always get a positive number.
Ex:-3x-4=12
How do you divide negative numbers?
When dividing negative numbers from positive numbers, you always get a negative number.
Ex:16:-4=-4
When dividing positive numbers from negative numbers, you always get a negative number.
Ex:-16:4=-4
When dividing negative numbers from negative numbers, you always get a positive number.
Ex:-16:-4=4
