Necrotizing Periodontal Disease Flashcards
2 classifications of necrotizing periodontal disease
A. Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
B. Necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis
Inflammatory destructive infection of periodontal tissues that involves tissue necrosis
Necrotizing periodontal disease
Necrosis limited to gingival tissues
Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
Necrosis of the gingival tissues combined with loss of attachment and alveolar bone loss
Necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis
Tissue death resulting in partial loss of interdental papilla; punched-out or cratered appearance
Gingival necrosis
Consists primarily of fibrin and necrotic tissue with leukocytes, erythrocytes, and masses of bacteria
Pseudomembrane
Clinical feature of this is long standing episodes of necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
Non-aids type necrotizing periodontal disease
Characterized by areas of ulceration and necrosis of the gingival margin; covered with a whitish-yellow soft material
Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
A distinguishing feature of this is destructive progression of the disease as in periodontal attachment loss and bone loss
