Gingival Disease Flashcards
Inflammation of the gingival tissues in response to bacterial plaque
Gingivitis
Most common form of periodontal disease
Dental Plaque-Induced Gingivitis
Localized, mushroom-shaped gingival mass projecting from the gingival margin or the gingival papilla during pregnancy
Pregnancy-associated pyogenic granuloma
Helps maintain healthy sulcular epithelium thereby preventing entry of bacteria into the connective tissue
Vitamin A
Maintains healthy mucosal tissue
B-complex
Exposure of the root surface by an apical shift in the position of the gingiva
Gingival recession
Refers to the level of the coronal end of the epithelial attachment on the tooth
Actual position
Refers to the level of the crest of the gingival margin
Apparent position
Narrow, triangular shaped gingival recession seen on tooth 44
Stillman’s cleft
Rolled, thickened band of gingiva usually seen adjacent to the cuspids when recession approaches the mucogingival junction
