Neck/cranium Flashcards
All of the above
lateral pterygoid insertion origin and action
Origin Great wing of sphenoid and pterygoid plate (which is on sphenoid inferior to wind and posterior to maxilla)
Insertion Condyloid process of the mandible and actually inserts into disc and capsule some say
PRI says it internally rotates ipsilatteral temporal bone?
what do the lateral pterygoids do to the cranium with respect to the mandible in the sagittal plane ?
they attempt to pull the cranium posteriorly on a forward head and neck that is stabilized NY the mandible depressions (hyoid) and omahyoid muscle (pg 46)
what does the lateral pterygoid do to the ipsilateral sphenoid when it contracts?
pulls base of it down and forward and the ipsilateral greater wing rises and brings sphenoid into ER and temporal bone into IR. side note : contracting contralateral lateral pterygoid reverses temporal bone into ER (pg 46)
