What should u inspect in the neck?
thyroid cart, cricoid, thyroid gland, SCM, symmetry, masses or lesions, tracheal poisition, JVD
What is the active ROM for the neck?
Touch chin to chest
Put head back
Touch each shoulder with the ear
Touch each shoulder with chin
What is the passive ROM for the neck?
Feel for crepitus during passive motion
What are the normal ROM for the neck?
Ability to touch chest with chin
55 degree extension
30 degree rotation
40 degree lateral bend
What do u do b4 u palp the neck?
auscultate the carotids for bruits
What are the features of the anterior neck u should palp?
Provider behind seated patient Cricoid and thyroid cartilage Position of the trachea Thyroid Have patient swallow Nodules, thyroidmegal
What is the method to palp the carotids?
Detract SCM posteriorly with finger pads
Palpate one carotid at a time
Avoid the carotid sinus superiorly
Nuchal rigidity is a sign fo what?
meningitis
What is brudzinskis sign?
Patient supine
Passive neck flexion
Positive with pain or restricted movement
What is kernigs sign?
Patient supine with knees bent
Extend lower leg
Positive with pain
