A

Not all nations were part of it making it weak as they didn’t have to work with it. Countries that fought against it were not asked to join and nor was Russia. Germany was asked to join and the US congress refused to join

A

Slow to make decisions and members seldom agreed to economic sanctions let alone military force. It needs the agreement of a significant majority to act

A

16th September 1931, Led to the Japanese takeover of Manchuria which ran as a satellite called Manchuko from 1932 and LoN protested but Japan just left in March 1933

Italy’s invasion of Abyssinia

A

3rd October 1935, on the 7th dec the league of nations demanded that Italy left and it didn’t and on the 9th they imposed partial economic sanctions. by 1936 Italy had all of Abyssinia

A

To avoid an alliance but pursue a course of appeasement to keep peace. This was driven by a desire to not go to war and Britain was facing colonial unrest and a pressure for independence from colonies such as India and Egypt.

A

Isolated in Europe by its Communist ideology. Stalin wanted to build its industry, agriculture and army to a point of self sufficiency and wanted to avoid war. similar to hitler.

A

Followed isolationism and disarmament in the 20s and 30s. Exported arms to Germany and tried to work for world peace. Intervened to persuade Hitler to withdraw from Czechoslovakia in 1938.
Produces Neutrality Act in 1937, encouraging Hitler to go to war

Dissatisfied by Treaties that ended WWI and its treatment in the League. Left the league in 1933 and formed uneasy alliances with Italy and Germany but not enthusiastically
