Navigation Tools & Systems Flashcards
NAV1
It’s a sophisticated navigation information system that integrates various navigational tools and electronic charts to provide real-time information and improve safety and efficiency in maritime navigation.
Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS)
Primary functions of ECDIS.
To contribute to safe navigation
Two Types of ECDIS Charts
Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC)
and
Raster Navigational Chart (RNC)
Give me 6 Kinds of Navigational Charts of ECDIS
Overview Charts (smaller than 1:1,500,000)
General Charts (1:350,000 – 1:1,500,000)
Coastal Charts (1:90,000 – 1:350,000)

International Maritime
Organization (IMO)
What are the three modes of ECDIS?
Day, Dusk, and Night
It’s a digitized images of traditional paper charts
that have been produced under the authority of a national
hydrographic office.
Raster Navigational Chart (RNC)
main purpose is to ensure that all the world’s seas, oceans and navigable waters are surveyed and charted, thereby supporting safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment.
International Hydrographic Organization (IHO)
It’s a computerized system on ships that helps detect and track vessels to avoid collisions and ensure safe navigation.
Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA)
What is the primary function of ARPA?
Improve the standard of collision avoidance at sea.
What is Nautical mile to meters?
1,852 m
