Navigation / FMC Flashcards
Which pitot static system provides info to the ISFD?
Centre
What is the maximum distance you can pass by a waypoint for the for the active waypoint to move to the next in sequence?
21 NM
Further than this and the ‘old’ active waypoint remains.
The 2 GPS receivers send their information where?
To their corresponding IRSs. These then feed the FMC. If the IRSs are inoperative then the GPSs feed the FMC direct.
What are the primary sources for attitude on the primary flight displays?
AHRU L IRU L
AHRU R IRU R
Is the ADF tuned automatically?
No
Can the IRS be re-aligned in flight?
Yes. In level unaccelerated flight.
What does a horn in the nose wheel well mean when on the ground?
An IRS is on, and running on battery power. ( hot battery bus)
How long must the IRSs be switched off for to realign?
30 Seconds
How do you manually enter an ILS or GLS?
ILS freq/course. Ie 111.7/245
GLS just the channel. Ie 20661
What are the approach tuning inhibits?
After LOC or GS capture with autopilot
Below 500ft without autopilot
How can you remove tuning inhibits?
TOGA switch
A/P off, FDs off
APP switch off above 1500ft RA
If an IRS cannot provide attitude to the PFD, what provides data?
ISFD . Message SGL SOURCE ATTITUDE will be displayed.
VSD is in route mode when ______ is engaged.
LNAV
If in HDG, the VSD is in what mode?
Track mode. Track mode is also used if deviation is more than the RNP.
What is the VSD corridor width?
2 times RNP value. Max width 10 miles
What is the maximum range that terrain can be shown on the map and VSD?
320 nm
During take off roll you can disarm LNAV & VNAV by pushing?
TOGA switch above 80 Kts
A TOGA switch on take off will remove a _______?
Thrust debate
If ALT CAP occurs in a TOGA pitch climb what do the FMAs show?
SPD TOGA ALT
Speed will increase to the current flap limit speed -5kts or 250kts if flaps up. Press CLB/CON to set climb thrust.
What is the difference between the LOC GS indicators and the IAN approach indicators on the PFD?
ILS are diamond shape
IAN are triangles (as are NPS)
Can you use an IAN approach with QFE?
No it must be QNH
When do ILSs and IAN ‘tune’?
Less than 50 nm from T/D
or less than 150 nm from massed approach point
or FMC descent phase
On a IAN approach, when do you arm the APP Mode?
Cleared for the approach
On intercept heading
Deviation pointers in view
How does a IAN excess deviation show?
The scale changes to Amber if the pointer is over the ANP bar for 5 seconds or more.
On a back course approach, what course will you see on the NAVRAD page and the PFD?
The front course. Do not change this!
