Navigation Flashcards
What is the procedure for operating using QFE altimetry (Russia)?
- Ask for a QNH setting
- When cleared below the transition level turn off the meters button
- Set QNH altitudes from the conversion chart on the approach plate
Example - Cleared below transition altitude to 400 meters QFE, check chart and set QNH altitude in feet
What are the runway facilities required for a takeoff with RVR 1,600 feet or visibility 1/4 mile?
With RVR 1,000 feet touchdown, RVR 1,000 feet rollout?
With RVR 500 feet touchdown, RVR 500 feet mid, RVR 500 feet rollout?
Adequate visual reference
CL or RCLM and HIRL, with 2 RVR sensors both are RC, with 3 RVR sensors 2 are required and all operating RVR’s are controlling
CL and HIRL, with 2 RVR sensors both are RC, with 3 RVR sensors 2 are required and all operating RVR’s are controlling
What is the FMC changeover time?
0901 Zulu
What is the maximum airspeed below 10,000 feet?
Below 2,500 feet within class C or D airspace?
Underneath class B airspace?
250 knots
200 knots
200 knots
What are the maximum holding speeds domestically?
- 200 knots; 1 minute thru 6,000 feet
- 230 knots; 1 minute above 6,000 feet to 14,000 feet
- 265 knots; 1 1/2 minutes above 14,000 feet
What are the maximum holding speeds internationally?
- 230 knots; 1 minute thru 14,000 feet
- 240 knots; 1 1/2 minutes above 14,000 feet to 20,000 feet
- 265 knots; 1 1/2 minutes above 20,000 feet to 34,000 feet
- .83 Mach; 1 1/2 minutes above 34,000 feet
What is required to operate to an airport where the reported RVR is less than 4,000 feet (3/4 mile)?
Equipment required
- 1 flight director in the approach mode, or
- 1 autopilot
Runway light and marking requirements
- Runway centerline lights (CL) are operating, or
- The runway must have visible precision instrument runway markings
What is the required ceiling and visibility to commence a circling approach?
1,000 foot ceiling and 3 miles visibility
When must a nonprecision approach be flown with an autopilot?
With 1,000 foot ceiling and/or visibility less than 3 miles
How do you determine DA/DDA?
- If minimums are preceded by LNAV/VNAV DA do not add 50 feet to minimums (DA = Don’t Add)
- If minimums are preceded by MDA add 50 feet to minimums, unless a ball note is published (MDA = Must Do Arithmetic)
What are the raw data ILS minimums?
- RVR 4,000 feet or 3/4 mile or LOC ONLY visibility minimums
- DA is the charted MDA for the LOC ONLY approach
What is the minimum DA and visibility for a CAT I approach?
- DA 200 feet
- RVR 24 - 2,400 feet touchdown RC
- RVR 18 - 1,800 feet touchdown RC
(mid can substitute for inoperative touchdown)
What is the minimum DH and visibility for a CAT II approach?
- DH 100 feet
- RVR 16 - 1,600 feet touchdown RC
- RVR 12 - 1,200 feet touchdown RC, 600 feet mid RC, 300 feet rollout RC
- RVR 10 - 1,000 feet touchdown RC, 600 feet mid RC, 300 feet rollout RC
(TD and rollout are RC)
(If reported, mid is also controlling)
(mid can substitute for inoperative rollout)
What is the minimum DH and visibility for a CAT III approach?
- DH 50 feet
- RVR 7 - 700 feet touchdown RC, 700 feet mid RC, 300 feet rollout RC
- RVR 6 - 600 feet touchdown RC, 600 feet mid RC, 300 feet rollout RC
- RVR 3 - 600 feet touchdown RC, 600 feet mid RC, 300 feet rollout RC
(all must be operational)
