THANKS TO THE BREAKING OF THE JAPANESE NAVY CODE, THE U.S WAS ALERTED TO A LARGE JAPANESE FORCE MOVING TO CORAL SEA TO SEIZE PORT ON THE SOUTH WEST COAST OF NEW GUINEA. IT WAS TO BE THE 1ST OF STEP OF A PLANNED INVASION OF AUSTRALIA. THE JAPANESE OPERTATION CENTERED AROUND THREE AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AND DOZEN OF TROOPSNTRANSPORTS, BUT AMERICANS MET THEM WITH 2 CARRIERS OF THEIR OWN. ON MAY 7 THE JAP PLANE SNAK TWO MINOR SHIPS WHILE US PLANES SANK ALL ISOLATED ENEMY CARRIERS. THE NEXT DYA BOTH SIDES LAUNCHEDS ALL PLANE. THE 1ST CARRIER VS CARRIER BATTLE 1 JAPANESE CARRIER WAS DAMAGED. THE U.S LEXINGTON SUNK . THE YORKTOWN DAMAGED. BOTH SIDED WITH DREW.

MIDWAY WAS THE TURNING POINT OF THE PACIFIC WAR. A HUGE ARMADA OF 160 JAPANESE SHIPS WAS INVOLVED. THE US HAD 3 HAD 3 CARRIERS AND NO BATTLE SHIPS. THE US PLANES HEADED DOE THE ENEMY CARRIERS THE US CREW FINALLY GOT THROUGH AND SANK 3 JAPANESE CARRIERS. IN ONE DAY JAPAN LOST ITS BID CONTROL OF THE PACIFIC
GUADALCANAL 13-15 NOVEMBER 1942
AFTER 3 DAYS OF FIGHTING. THE JAPAN NAVAL FORCES RETREATED AND THE US MARINES WERE ABLE TO SECURE GUADALCANAL. JAPAN LOST 2 CRUISERS AND 6 DESTROYERS. THE USS JUNEAU WAS INVOLVED IN BATTLE. THE NAVY POLICY WAS TO PLACE DIFFERENT BRO’S ON DIFF. SHIPS BUT THE 5 SULLIVAN BROS FROM IOWA INSISTED ON STAYING TOGETHER. THIS SHIP WAS DESTROYED WITH 700 CREW MEMBERS AND BECAUSE OF THIS NAVY POLICY OF OF FAMILY SEPERATION WAS REINSTATED.
