Nature of a Catholic School Flashcards
Key features of a Catholic school
Prayer and Justice
What is different about a Catholic education?
It has a distinct and unique purpose.
What does a Catholic education provide?
It is not just about an academic education, but a HOLISTIC education.
This means that students are educated academically, spiritually, emotionally and morally.
What are key features of a Catholic education and the SCHOOL BUILDING which will HELP PEOPLE APPRECIATE THE NATURE OF A CATHOLIC EDUCATION?
examples: Crucifixes in each room School Chapel Religious quotes on walls Religious artwork to inspire us School layout - in shape of a crucifix on which Jesus died as a constant reminder of the sacrifice he made for us.
The most important feature of Catholic education?
Prayer - We believe that praying is to raise one’s heart and mind to God. We believe we are here for a higher purpose - for the good of others and spreading God’s message through good deeds to others.
At school we pray at beginning of every lesson to ask God to help us to focus our minds on him. Praying helps us come together as a community.
Other important features of a Catholic education?
Justice.
We believe that education will help us fight for justice for others in the world around us. If we can get to a position of power in society via a good education - our mission will be to use that power to help others and do justice for others. We can help make the world a better place and spread the ‘Word of God’ in this way. Justice will bring peace in the world.
Education for Justice - is one of the Edmund Rice 8 essentials.
