mounting tooth
1) rinse it with gloves on
2) place two opposing horizontal grooves 1 mm deep and with 016 diamond bur
- or 0.5mm deep for multiple roots
3) mount it in microstone, leave 1/8 inch on top without stone
4) make sure it stays upright
caries control
1) large carious lesion which cannot be removed by any direct preps you know
2) stop advancement
3) eval whether enough natural tooth remains to place a crown with buildup
4) remove the restorative material, use #8 on high speed to go around entire enamel border and remove caries or demin
- extend 0.5 mm into dentin so you see DEJ
5) use slow speed #8 to remove infected caries and check with spoon
6) if you are within 0.5 mm of the pulp and active caries is not removed, use activa
7) extend 1 mm at enamel to create clean periphery
build up
1) anchor
2) prior to application, vigorously scrub with prelude 15 sec, and 15 sec of adhesive, air thin, and prelude link 3 on all interior surfaces
- paint dentin and enamel with anchor and filled to the top
wrap tofflemire around the tooth
1) point tip toward you and turn 90 degrees clockwise
2) panit the dentin and enamel with anchor
3) fill to the level of the cusp
4) build some grooves and ridges with your burs
complete FVC
1) do not place margin in buildup
2) if there is a void in the anchor and dentin, fill it in with flowable
3) create a 5-6 degree taper
common mistake
1) you MUST remove stain in the DEJ
2) also note that the affected dentin is light yellow
