natural selection Flashcards
what are the types of natural selection?
stabilizing, disruptive, directional
what is the definition of stabilizing in natural selection?
individuals near the centre of the phenotypic range are usually favoured (ex. favouring an average weight baby over an extremely over or underweight baby to decrease the rate of mortality)
what is the definition of disruptive in natural selection?
individuals at either end of the phenotypic range being favoured (ex. a guy liking both blondes and brunettes, so Amy - blonde, and teya - brunette, would both be favoured and have an equal chance with the guy)
what is the definition of directional in natural selection?
individuals at one end of the phenotypic range are favoured (ex. grey mice surviving being eaten from birds because they can camouflage better than white mice)
what are the factors influencing natural selection?
climate, habitat conditions, amount of predators, and food sources
