Natural Law Flashcards
What does natural law not allow?
Natural law does not allow for actions to be right for some people and wrong for others. In contrast natural law gives rise to objective moral norms and rules of conduct.
The Ten Commandments contain particular expressions of natural law that spell out the moral requirement to love God and to love our neighbour. The laws that govern societies and communities should also be derived from the truths of natural law.
What is natural law?
Natural law refers to a natural knowledge of right and wrong that is part of being human and it expresses the conviction that ‘good should be done and promoted and evil avoided’. It is the basis for widely shared principles, norms and practices in fields such as justice and human rights, life issues and sexual morality. Anyone guided by natural law understands that rape, the murder of innocent people and the abuse of children are wrong actions
