Catholic Approach To Ethics Flashcards
What is the catholic teaching that is based on natural law?
In the Catholic tradition, based on natural law, basic fundamental values are seen as knowable by everyone through their use of human reason and goodwill.
Most of us would say that love, generosity, equality and self-sacrifice are values that we hold to be good, as well as recognising truth, peace, friendship, health and justice are good things to which we have natural human rights. We also recognise that crimes are morally wrong.
Something within human beings demonstrates an understanding of good and bad, right and wrong. What do Catholics recognise about this?
Catholics believe that this recognition arises from the presence of God within each person, whether or not each person recognises that presence.
Central to all Christian moral thinking are two sets of rules found in the Bible.
These include:
The Hebrew Scriptures, The Ten Commandments and from the Gospels The Beatitudes.
What are the moral values taught by Christians?
Christianity teaches objective moral values include, that some actions are right or wrong irrespective of the view held by any individual.
