Natural Hazards Flashcards
Natural Hazard
Natural event that threatens people, has huge social impact + has potential to cause damage, destruction + death e.g flooding
Geological Hazard
Created by movement of Earth’s tectonic plates or surface rock + soils e.g volcanic eruption, earthquake, tsunami
Atmospheric Hazard
Created in atmosphere, by movement of air + water e.g drought, tornado + hurricane
Factors Affecting Hazard Risk
Urbanisation - more people in one area, Climate change - gives storms + hurricanes more energy, some parts of world become wetter - flooding/drier - droughts or famines, Farming - farmers live in areas of risk as they’re good for farming + Poverty - people forced to live in areas of risk
Hazard Risk
Probability or chance of being affected by natural event e.g earthquake
