-depended more heavily on agriculture, so built more permanent settlements

Arctic tribes

-cold climates
-subsisted entirely by hunting, gathering, fishing
-primary source of sustenance= seal meat
Plains tribes
-most migratory bison hunters
-nomadic tribes in this region popularly built teepees
-settled grew crops and traded with nomadic hunting tribes
Northeast/great lakes
-combination of hunting and gathering
-slash and burn agriculture (areas of forestland burned to create fields) based on three sisters (corn, beans, squash)
-not as labor intensive
-primarily fields tended by women
Southwest
-maize (corn) agriculture
-constructed cliff dwellings that provided defense against attacks
-built large apartment complexes out of mud bricks
Southeast
-relied on settled agriculture
