minority: groups feel their culture is under threat from nationalism (e.g. SNP want a separate state)

1. diaspora: all those descended from africans have shared ancestry. diaspora is due to slave trade
2. colonialism: africans divided in africa due to imperial powers trying to dominate. they need to liberate Africa
