Scope of Practice Registration Standard
This registration standard sets out the Dental Board of
Australia’s (the Board) requirements for the scope of practice
for dental practitioners
Dental practitioners must only perform dental treatment:
- that i have been trained in
- that I am pro in (competant)
My responsibilities
Who regulates The National Law?
AHPRA
registers practitioners, complaints, supports code development, advise
Dental Board of Australia
similar to AHPRA
also trains overseas trained practitioners, and approves standards of uni course

Role of Dental Council
protect public
What is process of complaint?
assess, manage, no action or action (court/ non court)
3 categories of complaints the dental council deals with:
- behavioral
2.skill - health- council considers whether impairment may have affected practitioner, if so and it is safe, can cont to practice with supervision or restrictions
Can the Dental council suspend dental practitioner or students registration?
yes they can do so under sect. 150 of National law
What is a mandatory notification?
Things needed to be reported to AHPRA . under National law, health practitioners, employers and education
providers have an obligation to notify Ahpra of notifiable conduct.
Obligations of relevant events that need to be reported to Dental council
- crime
- no insurance
- loss of job at hospital or facility
- loss of medicare priviledge
