Mercantilism
The British government protected its merchants through trade barriers and taxes to maximize exports from and minimize imports to Britain.
The Boston Massacre
Angry colonial mob protesting about taxes were shot by British soldiers. Six people died but it was exxagerated to gain more support
The Boston Tea party
Britain removed all taxes except for that on tea. Colonizers masqueraded as natives and dumped the tea in the boston harbour. They were then punished by more taxes being placed on massachusets ( untolerable act)
First continental congress
Colonial leaders meet in philadelphia to discuss their opression (1774)
Second continental congress
They’re taking action and George Washington who lead the military delegated in France for help
1776 Declaration of independence
Thomas Jefferson whrote it and sent it to England, July 4 1776. They mentioned rights of men, abolishing the bad government and wanted to choose their own.

Central Government
In charge of foreign relations and war to settle disputes between stated. It had to be unanimous
League of Leadership
One vote per state. State legislators choose congressman and the states must raise money for the central government
New Constitution
It was made and took two years to be ratified. Many compromises were made to make a stronger central government

Carries out the law. The President, vice-president and cabinet
Legislative branch
They write the law. Consists of the congress, this is 100 senators, 2 from every state. Besides that there’s the house of represenatives (435 people, based nmbr ppl in state)
Judicial branch
This branch Judges whether the law is constitutional. Its made of the supreme court who do the judicial review. There are nine who were appointed by the president

Power share between federal and state authorities
Checks and balances
Each branch of government needs approval from another before changes are made.
3/5 Compromise
During the first census to determine the number of Representatives to the House, slaves were counted as 3/5ths of a person.
Bill of rights
The right to free speech.
The right to freedom of religion.

The right not to be searched or arrested without good reason

granted African American men the right to vote.
18th Amendment
established the prohibition of alcohol in the United States.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
