Q

What is the new (Oct 17 2018) distance for etops alternates at 330 kts

60 min

120 min

180 min

A

60 min - 458 nm

120 min - 878 nm

180 min - 1317 nm

(We are now using one distance for -8 and -9, and it uses a statistical average using average of
reference weights for flights when operating in the planned ETOPS area was used instead of t/o weight minus 1 hr)

When received check against Legs and OFP (valid for 10 min only). If correct ACCEPT then print and place on clipboard.

38
Q

Gander Oceanic, AC 846, request SELCAL check

AC 846, SELCAL checks

Done every time new HF Freq is assigned to ensure correct address and system is working

41
Q

When and how do we transfer to Shanwick Radio HF

A

approaching 30W expect a CPDLC message indication now logged on to Shanwick EGGX

“Shanwick radio, AC 846, CPDLC, Track N (or Oceanic Exit Point if Random track) Request SELCAL ckeck XXXX”

“AC 846, CPDLC, Domestic frequencies by CPDLC, Here is your SELCAL check”

42
Q

Approaching the first domestic waypoint you will receive a CPDLC message advising what

A

“contact Shannon Control at 0300Z on 128.72

Follow the instructions

43
Q

What information is required for crew change procedures or controlled rest on the flight deck. ATB
Upon assuming flight deck duties, the returning flight crew member shall, as a minimum:

A

Speaker/Headset
aircraft present position
waypoint ahead
next waypoint
ATC communication (including CPDLC message and
connection)
Fuel check
Cockpit scan to verify aircraft condition.

44
Q

When the crew receives the uplink CPDLC message “SET MAX UPLINK DELAY VALUE TO [delayed message parameter] SECONDS”

the PM shall:

A
  1. Send a positive response to ATC by selecting ACCEPT
  2. COMM/ATC/logon-status
Enter the specified uplink delay as provided by ATC CPDLC uplink.
45
Q

What are the new altimeter setting rules outside of Canada and US?

A

Outside of Canada and the United States we should now be setting standard pressure when cleared to a flight level and local altimeter setting when cleared to an altitude.

There is one caveat to this. If there are crossing restrictions in a departure or arrival procedure the appropriate altimeter setting must be maintained until the restriction is satisfied at which point the altimeter can be reset as appropriate.

46
Q

If a deviation from track is required to avoid weather and contact cannot be established with ATC or ATC is unable to provide a clearance to deviate or suggest a course of action, the Flight Crew shall take the following actions:

A

Deviate away from organized track
Broadcast on 121.5 or 123.45
Monitor TCAS
Lights on
< 10nm stay at FL
> 10nm if deviating north descend, south climb 300 ft
When returning to assigned track, be at FL 10nm away
If deviation without a clearance is required an ASR will be filed

47
Q

What are the normal radio procedures for oceanic crossings

A

first frequency with Gander Oceanic will be VHF. The Crew will check in with –
“Gander Radio, Air Canada 856, request frequencies, Shanwick
next.”
Gander Radio will provide two HF frequencies, a primary and a
secondary. The Crew will switch to the primary HF frequency and
check in with –
“Gander Radio, Air Canada 856, request SELCAL check…”
If the check is successful, then the Crew can respond with –
“Air Canada 856, SELCAL checks” and deselect the audio of the
HF radio, using SELCAL watch instead of a listening watch.
After the SELCAL check is complete, Crews can select 121.5 and
123.45 on the VHF radios, since they are now using HF to stay with
Gander Radio.

Q

Where can you find satcom codes (Inmarsat)

A

SATCOM CALL CODES can be found in the JeppFD-PRO. The
information is accessed by selecting the blue information box in the applicable FIR; or selecting a boundary.

under the NOTES section and is listed as IMARSAT
SECURITY NUMBER with the applicable 6 digit code.

They can also be found in the Jepp Manual General in the Enroute
section, where it is titled: “INMARSAT Security Numbers (Short
Codes) and SATCOM Voice (PSTN)”. The codes are listed by
country.

50
Q

How do we remove SLOP

A

59
Q

When flying into remote or oceanic areas where no radar exists, how does ATC control the traffic

Q

What do you have to do to each new HF freq

A

Key the mic once
you will hear a short tone
this starts the antenna tuning

63
Q

What is a considerations when doing an oceanic deviation for wx

A

Do not exceed 21 nm while on CPDLC

Waypoint sequencing will only occur when the aircraft is within 21 NM of the aircraft active flight plan route (as modified by any parallel offset that may have been entered). Therefore ADS-C waypoint change event report
will not be transmitted automatically when the aircraft is outside these limits

64
Q

How will you know if MEL affects ETOPS operational capability?

A

It will clearly state it in the MEL

65
Q

When can you use the ETOPS 207 min distances?

A

Use of this approval shall be limited to times when 180 minute ETOPS is not availabledue to circumstances such as political or military concern, volcanic activity, airport weather below dispatch requirements, temporary airport condition, and other weather
related events.
