a 4 string guitar which is pitched lower than a guitar
what is a brass band?
a band with brass and percussion instruments
what is a clarinet?
a woodwind instrument which uses a single reed
what is a cello?
a string instrument which is larger than a violin and smaller than a double bass
what are cymbols?
untuned percussion. cymbals can be crashed together or struck with a stick or beater
what is distortion?
an electronic effect used in rock music to colour the sound of an electric guitar
what is a double bass?
the largest and lowest string instrument
what is a flute?
a woodwind instrument which is made of metal
what is a glockenspiel?
a tuned percussion instrument with metal bars
what is a güiro?
an untuned percussion instrument. it is made of hollowed out wood and scraped with a wooden stick
what is a harpsichord?
a keyboard instrument where the string are plucked
what is muted?
using a device which changes the sound of an instrument. brass instruments and string instruments can use mutes

pipes which are graded in size and bound together. the sound is made by blowing across the top of the pipes
what is a recorder?
there are four main types of recorder: descant, treble, tenor and bass

a woodwind instrument made of metal which uses a single reed
what is soprano?
the highest female singing voice
what is a snare drum?
untuned percussion. this drum can be played with sticks or brushes. the snares are a set of metal wires streched across the bottom skin of the drum. the snares can be giving a ‘rattly’ sound, or off, giving a ‘dry’ sound

what is a timpani?
tuned percussion. a timpani is a large copper coloured drum. the pitches of each drum can be charged, either by hand or by pedal
