place bath towel over chest
provide tissues and basin

occlude on nare and instruct patient to breathe normally and repeat for other side. this lets you know which nare is the best one for insertion.

What is done if resistance is met continuously?

Answer 3

try the other nostril if this continues

What site do we want the nasogastric tube to go past?

Answer 4

just past the nasopharynx

Question 5

What is the pace that the tube is brought down?

Answer 5

1-2 inches with each swallow
