2
Q

why are nanosized particles useful?

A

they can produce new properties in materials due to an increase in surface area as theres more area for a reaction.
these properties are different to those of a big scale

Q

give some uses of nanoparticles

A

face creams
socks (some have nanoparticles of silver that have antifungle proprties)
some drugs
fridges (are coated in nanoparticles of silver which kills bacteria)
sunglasses and sun cream (nanoparticles have properties that absorb uv light)

Q

give some advantages and disadvantages of nanoparticles

A

advantages:
some have antibacterial and antifungal properties
uuseful as some catalysts
unusual properties leading to new uses

disadvantages:
could penetrate the skin and cause undesired side effects
easily released into the environment
there is a lot we dont know about them much more research is needed before there use becomes widespread
