What is the purpose of the NAMP?
The NAMP directs maintenance policies, procedures, and responsibilities at all levels of maintenance throughout naval aviation.

CNO (Chief of Naval Operations) through OPNAVINST 4790.2
Who manages the NAMP?
Commander Naval Air Forces (CNAF) via COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2
What does the term “WARNING” indicate?
Refers to a procedure or practice that, if not correctly followed, could result
in injury, long term health hazards
What does the term “CAUTION” indicate?
Refers to a procedure or practice that, if not correctly followed, could result
in damage to or destruction of equipment
What does the term “NOTE” indicate?
Refers to a procedure or condition that requires emphasis.
What do the terms “Must” and “Will” indicate?
Indicate the procedure is mandatory
What term is no longer used in the NAMP? And as per what?
“Shall” is no longer used in this instruction. When used in other instructions, “shall” indicates a mandatory procedure. As per OPNAV M-5215.
What does the term “Should” indicate?
Indicates the procedure is recommended.
What does the term “May” and “need not”indicate?
Indicates the procedure is optional
What does “Wing” refer to?
Unless specifically stated otherwise, refers to both Navy Type Wings and Marine
Aircraft Wings (MAW).
Who is equivalent to the MO in the Marine Corps?
Aircraft Maintenance Officer for the Marine
