Contraindications

• Known sensitivity to naloxone, nalmefene or naltrexone

Adverse Effects

Answer 5

• Nausea, vomiting, restlessness, tachycardia, hypertension, tremulousness, seizures, cardiac arrest, narcotic withdrawal.

Administration

Answer 6

• Adult: 0.4-2mg IV/IO/ET/IM/SubQ or 2 mg intranasally.
• Higher doses may be required for overdoses of synthetic narcotics
• Repeat as necessary.

Special Considerations

• Use with caution in patients with supraventricular arrhythmias or other cardiac disease, head trauma, or brain tumors.
