mytology overview Flashcards
what are skeletal muscle fibers organized into
fascicles
belly of muscles
part of the muscle that contains the muscle fibers and fascicles
tendon
visible connective tissues
epimysium
outermost layer of connective tissue
types of fascicle arrangement
parallel, convergent, pennate, circular
parallel fascicle arrangement
simple: force of contraction works to shorten muscle
convergent fascicle arrangement
has a narrow attachment on one side and a broad attachment on the other side –> all parts of muscle make work together
pennate fascicle arrangement
involves attachment at an angle to the tendon – have many more cells but much shorter cells and fascicles
origin of muscle
the more stable attachment that is often more proximally or more medially located on the body
synergists
(agonists) work in generally the same way
example of synergist
brachii and brachialis muscle –> both flex the elbow joint
antagonists
muscles that work opposite of eachother
