What is a Myotome
Segmental innervation of muscle supplied by a single nerve.
There is overlap in muscle supply, therefore, KEY muscles are tested for weakness.
NOT TESTED FOR PAIN
Tested according to principles of manual muscle testing
Grade 0
No contraction palpable
Grade 1
Trace value
Evidence of a slight contractibility but no joint movement
Grade 2-
Poor - value
Initiates motion if gravity is eliminated
Grade 2
Poor Value - 25%
Complete range of motion with gravity eliminated
Grade 2+
Poor + value
Initiates motion against gravity
Grade 3-
Fair - value
Some but not complete range of motion against gravity
Grade 3
Fair Value - 50%
Complete range of motion against gravity
Grade 3+
Fair + value
Complete range of motion against gravity with minimal resistance
Grade 4
Good value - 75%
Complete range of motion against gravity with some (moderate) resistance
Grade 5
Normal value - 100%
Complete range of motion against gravity with maximal resistance
Are Myotomes testing a Nerve Root or a Peripheral Nerve? What is it called?
Myotomes are testing the Nerve Root, therefore it is called RADICULOPATHY
