Myofascial Release II Flashcards
Direct/ Indirect Thoracolumbar MFR
- Introduce myofascial stress
(clockwise/counterclockwise motions)
- Engage barriers
(sidebending, rotation, flexion, extension)
- Perform release enhancing maneuvers
Prone Regional Thoracic Direct or Indirect MFR
(Prone)
- hands on bilateral sides of thoracic spine
- put area under myofascial stress
(clockwise right hand, counter clockwise left hand)
- engage barriers
(sidebending, rotation, flexion, extension)
Activating forces: inhalation/exhalation, leg extension/flexion, arm abduction/adduction
Lower Thoracic Under Shoulder
(Lateral Recumbent)
- Forearms in contact with axilla and iliac crest
- Elbows spread apart, elongating distance between shoulder and hip
- Move muscles laterally
- Pt breathes deeply
Seated Paraspinal Lumbar Soft Tissue
- Palm on erector spinae muscles
- Hand grasps shoulder
- Apply force with inferiour and and translate shoulder until tissue response
Lumbosacral Region MFR
- One hand over inferior lumbar segment
- Other hand over superior lumbar segment
- Monitor inferior/superior glide, left/right motion, counterclockwise/clockwise motion
- Treat indirect or direct barrier
Direct/ Indirect Lumbosacral MFR/INR Prone
- One hand at L/S junction
- Other hand over superior lumbar vertebrae
- Engage barriers: superior/inferior, rotation, sidebending
Activated force:
leg extension, int/ext rotation
inhalation/ exhalation
Fascial Release Technique: Prone I- Sacral release
- Hands placed on top of each other, covering sacrum
- Engage barriers: superior/inferior, rotation, sidebending
Activating force:
inhalation/ exhalation
leg extension, int/ext rotation
Hamstring Hypertonicity SD & ME/MFR
- pt supine
- Stabilize at contralateral ASIS with one hand
- other hand grasps leg above ankle, flexes at hip until FASCIAL barrier is reached
- pt is instructed to push leg downward towards floow against resistance
LE: ITB Syndrome
Prone
(prone)
- Use caudad hand to grab foot/ankle, flex knee to 90 degrees
- Cephalad hand contacts thigh
- Push foot out while also engaging the thigh
LE: ITB Syndrome
Lateral Recumbent
- Stand facing pt
- stabilize pt by places hand on iliac crest
- make a fist, run it over the thigh
- engage tissue
Knee MFR/INR
- grasp either side of knee cap
- twist in ER/IR motion
Knee Myofascial Release
*Contraindications: acute fracture, deep venous thrombosis
Indirect MFR of Sprained Ankle
- inferioir hand on forefoot:
inversion/eversion, plantarflexion/dorsiflexion, internal/external rotation
- engage as many indrect barriers as possible
- follow release until no more creep
LE: Plantar Fascia: Longitudinal Stretch
Plantar Fascia MFR
