myocardial ischemia Flashcards

1
Q

what is myocardial ischemia

A

occurs when blood flow to the myocardium is obstructed by a partial or complete blockage of a canary artery by a buildup of plaque (atherosclerosis)

2
Q

difference between ischemia and infarction

A

ischemia decreases blood flow causing hypoxia

infarctions cut off blood flow causing necrosis

how is athlersclrosis treated long term

A

with antiplatlets, anticoagulants, statins and anti-hypertensives

Q

why dose athlescrosis occur

A

chronic endothelial injury or stress, leading to fats accumulate in the wall of the artery, then there is inflammation and plaques hardening of the lining of the vessel

Q

the buildup of athloscrosis leads too

A

core of the plaque becoming necrotic and rupturing causing a blockage in a vessel

Q

treatment of myocardial ischemia

A
  1. 12 lead
  2. 300mg aspirin
  3. 0.4 mg GTN every 5 mins if reduces symptoms. 10 mins if caution
  4. IV access if required (poor perfusion, dysrhythmia ect.)

5.repeat 12 lead in 15-30 mins post first

Q

role of aspirin in myocardial ischemia

A

stops althrosclerosis from further building and inhibits an inflammatory response

9
Q

role of GTN in myocardial ischemia

A

reduces 02 demand, thus ischemia and dilates artery allowing more blood to pass
