- 250 Greek ships under Spartan King Leotychides
- Made way to Samos to liberate Ionian Greeks + incite revolt, prevent fruther invasion
- Greek spies from Samos reported Persian ships in poor condition
- Persians crushed by Salamis defeat seek protection from land army, created barricade by cutting down fruit trees
- Greek force 6000, persian uncertain
- Athenians advanced over beach, Spartans took difficult route over rough terrain
- Persians stood strong at first, arrival of spartans and other greek contingents led to defeat, Ionian’s joined Greek side

- First non-defensive battle for Greeks, carried into Persian territory
- Aegean waters and important trade routes through Hellespont now opne to Greek trade
- With tin victories at Plataea and Mycale, 2nd Persian invasion of Greece was over
- Greeks remained worried, over time became apparent Persian desire to conquer Greece was diminshed
