involves DNA synthesis: when the drug is administered, it binds to the enzyme that unwinds the DNA, which destructs the enzyme and stops it from its functioning, therefore causing death in the microorganisms as it cant synthesise

• but usually quite safe in a range of animals, if it effects an animals its typically the GI system (diarrhoea, vomiting)

at high doses it can stimulate the central nervous system
