Hi Dr I was examining a newborn and noticed it had small white spots on the periphery of the iris. I think these are called brushfields spots and I’ve heard that they are associated with a chromosomal disorder can you tell me which one

Hi Dr I was with a midwife calculating the apgar score of a child I can’t quite remember what the letters stood for. Please can you tell me what a stands for
Certainly in stands for activity otherwise known as muscle tone
Hi Dr I’m trying to calculate the apgar score and I’ve calculated everything else but I can’t remember what p stands for can you tell me
P stands for pulse
It should be a minimum of 100 beats per minute
Hi Dr I think the g in after I had something to do with the face of a child but I can’t remember what specifically can you tell me
G stands for grimace which represents the baby’s reaction to stimulation

Is it normal for a newborn to be blue and quite pale what would the scoring be on APGAR for this one category
This would give the newborn an apgar score of zero for appearance
Hi Dr the newborn is crying really loudly is this normal according to the APGAR score
Yes a vigorous cry scores to points on the apgar score
Hi Dr I was having an argument with the medical student as to whether an apgar score of 10 is good or bad tell her the correct answer
An apgar score of 10 is ideal
This means the baby is Pink on inspection is crying vigorously responds promptly to stimulation is active and has a heart rate of over 100
Hi Dr one of the medical students was asking me about the ideal position of the baby for labour what would you tell her
The position of the baby is described in relation to its you want the babys back facing anterior so this is described as OA
Hi Dr I know this is a controversial topic but I think it’s important for us all to know about fgm how many different types are there
