What caused the Scientific Revolution?
It was a break from religious teachings. The Catholic Church believed the Earth was the center of the earth.
What where the affects of the Scientific Revolution?
Found and proved the heliocentric theory and brought people to question the church and think with reason.
What is the scientific method?
a procedure that relies on observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification.
Who is Ptolemy?
Ptolemy placed the Earth at the centre of his geocentric model making the sun, moon and stars revolve around us.
Who is Copernicus and what did he do?
Copernicus was a philosopher, he created the heliocentric theory.
What are Kepler’s 3 laws of planetary motion.
They describe how (1) planets move in elliptical orbits with the Sun as a focus, (2) a planet covers the same area of space in the same amount of time no matter where it is in its orbit, and (3) a planet’s orbital period is proportional to the size of its orbit (its semi-major axis).
Who was Galileo Galilei?
He was an Italian philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician He made fundamental contributions to motion, astronomy, and strength of materials
What did Galileo Galilei do?
he discovered four moons revolving around Jupiter. He also found that the telescope showed many more stars than are visible with the naked eye.
What punishment did Galileo Galilei face?
the Catholic Church ordered Galileo to stop discussing ideas that conflicted with the teachings of the Church.
Who was Isaac Newton - What did he do?
Isaac Newton was a philosopher who created the three laws of motion , he also created calculus.
What did Voltaire stand for?
He fought for freedom of religious belief and freedom of speech. He thought all people were equal and wanted equal trials.
What did Montesquieu stand for?
He believed power should be split up between many people. His ideas became the basis for the constitution.
What did Locke believe in.
He believed in natural born rights. He was for democracy and that people should have the power.
What is Wollstonecraft believe in ?
Fought for woman´s rights. Said that woman needed education believed in democracy.
What did Rousseau believe in?
He thought good government was made by the people. Believed all people were bornequal.
