occurs during prophase 1 of meiosis, maternal and paternal chromosomes exchange portions of their genes resulting in variation

Q

what is mutation in cmif

A

mutation is a change in your DNA (genetic material). After polypeptide synthesis it can lead to a different protein (results in a new allele in the population)

Q

what is independent assortment in cmif

A

-any combo of genes go into cell after meiosis independently (all combos are equally likely)
-During meiosis all combinations of alleles (different versions of a gene) are distributed into the gametes with equal probability (independently of each other)

Q

what is fertilisation in cmif

A

any egg can go with any sperm (randomly) thus increasing the possible combinations of alleles within a population, leads to genetic variation
