Muslim Beliefs Flashcards
Outline three ways in which Sunni Muslims will express the Six Beliefs of Islam in their lives today
Muslims recite the beliefs in the oneness of Allah in their prayers each day. They will also look to the Quran for advice to help them understand their faith better and follow Allah. They will live their lives always aware of Allah and the fact that islam teaches that he will judge them on their actions after death. This will make them more aware of their behaviour.
What are the Five Roots of Usual ad-Din?
Tawhid - oneness of Allah
All - divine justice
Nubuwwah - Allah appointed prophets to pass his message onto humanity
Imamah - Allah appointed imams to guide humanity and be a source of authority
Mi’ad - humans will be judged by Allah on their actions after death
Explain two reasons why the Five Roots of Usual ad-Din are important in Shia Islam
They are important to Shi’a Muslims because they unite them as Muslims. They are the key beliefs all Muslims hold to be true. For example - all Shi’a Muslims believe in Allah as the only god - Tawhid
A second reason is that by holding these beliefs, Shi’a Muslims can understand their faith better, They help to identify the beliefs such as Mi’ad or the Day of Judgement
Explain two ways in which Allah is described by Muslims
Transendence - Allah is above and beyond human understanding.
Omnipotent - Allah is more powerful than anything in existence. He is seen to have created the world and is in control of everything.
Explain two reasons why the characteristics of Allah are important for Muslims. Refer to source of wisdom and authority.
Muslims believe that by knowing what Allah is like, it can help them understand Allah better so they can relate to him and develop a more personal relationship. Another reason is to follow Allah and by using the characteristics of Muslims can understand how we wants them to live their lives.

They have borought messages to humanity for example, Jibril gave the Quran to prophet Muhammad “then We sen her out angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects” (Surah 19:17)
Another reason is that angles are given important roles within Islam, for example, Izra’il is the angel od death: “The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord you will be returned” (Surah 32:11)
