musculoskeletal: Abnormal findings Flashcards
Observed difficulty with internal/external rotation
Suggests rotator cuff disorder or adhesive capsulitit
Weakness detected during empty can test
Posistive test indicates possible rotator cuff tear
Noted weakness in infraspinatus muscle strength
positive test indicates possible rotator cuff tear or bicipital tendinitis
Noted abnormal lowering of arm during drop test
positive test indicates rotator cuff tear
Noted pain on palpation of distal radius
Occurs in Colle’s fracture from a fall
Bilateral swelling and/or tenderness of the wrist last for several weeks
Consider rheumatoid arthritis
Noted tenderness over “snuff box”
suggests scaphoid fracture (most common injury of carpal bones)
MCPs in rheumatoid arthritis
Often boggy or tender
MCP joints in osteoarthritis
Usually not involved
When are PIP changes seen
seen in rheumatoid arthritis
Noted Bouchards nodes
Osteosrthritis
Pain at the base of the thumb
carpometacarpal arthritis
Decreased grip srength
positive test for weakness of finger flexors and/or intrinsic muscles of the hand
Patient c/o pain/numbness in first 3 fingers but not palm, especially at night
Carpal Tunnel
Patient c/o Loss of sensation in areas supplied by medial nerve
Carpal tunnel
Most sensitive test for carpal tunnel syndrome
Weak abduction of the thumb
Tenosynovitis
Inflammation of the lining of sheath that surrounds tendon
Lordosis
Abnoral curvature the spine
Purpose of McMurray test
To assess for a meniscal tear
Noted crepitus with flexion and extension of knees
Suggests osteoarthritis
Where are rheumatoid arthritis nodules usually found in the feet
achiles tendinitis, bursitis, or partial tear from trauma
Heel tenderness on palpation of plantar surface of foot
Plantar fascitis
tenderness along posterior medial malleolus
Suggests posterior tbial tendonitis and causes flat feet
