Observed difficulty with internal/external rotation
Suggests rotator cuff disorder or adhesive capsulitit
Weakness detected during empty can test
Posistive test indicates possible rotator cuff tear
Noted weakness in infraspinatus muscle strength
positive test indicates possible rotator cuff tear or bicipital tendinitis
Noted abnormal lowering of arm during drop test
positive test indicates rotator cuff tear
Noted pain on palpation of distal radius
Occurs in Colle’s fracture from a fall
Bilateral swelling and/or tenderness of the wrist last for several weeks
Consider rheumatoid arthritis
Noted tenderness over “snuff box”
suggests scaphoid fracture (most common injury of carpal bones)
MCPs in rheumatoid arthritis
Often boggy or tender
MCP joints in osteoarthritis
Usually not involved
When are PIP changes seen

Decreased grip srength
positive test for weakness of finger flexors and/or intrinsic muscles of the hand
Patient c/o pain/numbness in first 3 fingers but not palm, especially at night

Patient c/o Loss of sensation in areas supplied by medial nerve
