Musculoskeletal Flashcards

1
Q

Erb Palsy

A
  • Injury to C5-C6 nerve root
  • presentation: arm extended, wrist flexed
  • shoulder ABD, Flex, and rotation weakness
  • sensory deficits: posterior and lateral aspect of arm

Q

Klumpke Palsy

A
  • Injury to C8-T1 nerve roots
  • presentation: forearm supinated, wrist and finger flexion (“claw hand”)
  • weakness in hand intrinsics
  • sensory deficits to ulnar side of forearm and hand
  • common during birth
  • T1 involvement may result in Horner’s Syndrome

Q

Burner Syndrome

A
  • due to stretch or compression of brachial plexus
  • usually result of traction injury in young athletes or compression due to cervical disc disease/stenosis
  • Symptoms: immediate, severe burning; prickling sensation followed by muscle weakness

Q

Parsonage-Turner Syndrome

A
  • rapid onset of severe shoulder pain followed by atrophy of the affected areas
  • immune mediated attack on brachial plexus
