Musculoskeletal Flashcards
95% of disc herniations are at:
L5-S1 or L4-L5
Three occupational associations for CTS:
force, repetition, awkward posture

DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis
Biceps DTR:
C5, some C6
Brachioradialis DTR:
C6
Triceps DTR:
C7, C8
__% of subjects w/o neck pain had disc bulge or herniations
19%
__% of subjects w/o neck pain over 40 had bulge or herniations
28%
What is a late sign of CTS?
motor weakness (median nerve is 90% sensory)
What is a late EMG sign of CTS?
denervation of abductor pollicis brevis
NCV is gold standard for CTS testing but has __ false negative rate?
5-8% false negative rate
What is DDx for CTS?
pronator teres syndrome
What is pronator teres syndrome?
entrapment of median nerve at forearm
How to distinguish between PTS and CTS?
Tenderness at antecubital, pinch weakness, NCV findings proximal to wrist.
What is cubital tunnel syndrome?
entrapment of ulnar nerve at elbow
Clinical signs of cubital tunnel syndrome?
decreased sensation in medial forearm and 4th and 5th fingers, weakness in intrinsic muscles of hand, Tinel’s at elbow
What is EMG finding of cubital tunnel syndrome?
denervation of abductor digiti quinti
What is most common overuse injury of wrist?
DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis
Test for DeQuervain’s?
Finkelstein’s test
Which rotator cuff tendinopathy is most common?
supraspinatus
What % of population has had neck pain?
9-33%
C4 dermatome:
top of shoulders

lateral forearm, thumb, index finger
C7 dermatome:
neck to index, middle finger
C8 dermatome:
neck to ring, small finger
L5 nerve root dysfunction is associated with what findings?
lateral leg pain, weak EHL
S1 nerve root dysfunction is associated with
posterior thigh pain, lateral leg and foot pain, weak ankle plantar flexion, decreased ankle jerk
