we have to check the patients allergies, kidney function (understand they why here), etc
can an arthroscopy be diagnostic and treatment?
yes it can!
should you perform an arthroscopy if there is infection or inflammation?
no
What is the pathophysiology of back pain, and how can it affect strength, sensation, reflexes, and the nerve root or spinal cord?
the patho can have many causes, it can also cause impaired sensations etc with the individual
is back pain an age related consideration?
yes, our older patients are at an increased risk for having back pain and it can add to their ongoing health issues
what is an electromyography?
a test to evaluate the health of the muscles
what should our assessment look like for our patients with musculoskeletal issues?
their adls, what they can and cant do, what they USED to be able to do, family history, medications they are taking
what are some things we need to assess (ask and ask them to perform)when it comes to the musculoskeletal system?
if they have pain, movement, weakness, joint function, skin
do radioactive precautions need to be taken after gallium bone scan?

what are going to be some nursing interventions that we can do for our patients with back pain?
encourge rest, excercise, give them stress reduction techniques
when thinking about body mechanics, how should we teach our patients with back pain to lift?
they should life with their legs and NOT their backs
what is a hip arthroplasty and why is it indicated?
it is the surgical removal of a diseased joint. it can be indicated due to osteoarthritis of said joint.
how can we as the RN prevent carpal tunnel syndrome?
teach the pt to take breaks from work, use propper body mechanics
what can manifestations of carpal tunnel syndrome look like?
pain, numbness and tingling that can manifest in the wrist, and may radiate to the arm
what should be the funciton of the nurse when it comes to wrist surgery?
assessing neurovascular function, making sure motor funciton is back
what is osteoarthritis?
inflammation of the articular cartilage
what are the impacts of osteoarthritis?
fatigue, joint pain, mobility issues
how can we prevent osteoporosis?
eat a diet high in vitamin d and calcium
what is osteoporosis?
softening of the bone, it increases risk for fractures
what should we prevent with our osteoporosis patients ?
