Wrenching or twisting motion
Graded 1-3, 3 being the worst
RICE
Rest, ice, compression, elevate
Compression (wrapping a sprained ankle)
-helps decrease edema and pain
-wrap 50-75% tightness
-wrap distal to proximal due to blood flow
-check cap refill
Types of fractures
Open — skin broken; bone exposed
Closed — skin intact
Crepitation with fractures
