Musculoskeletal Flashcards
The musculo-skeletal system is composed of
voluntary muscle and five types of connective tissue: bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and fascia
The main functions of bone are
support, protection of internal structures, movement,
blood cell production, and mineral storage.
Osteons
Cylinder-shaped units that fit closely
together, creating a dense bone structure.
Osteoblasts
Bone building cells. Construct bones
Osteocytes
Mature bone cells that monitor and maintain your bone matrix
Osteoclasts
Bone breakers. Breaks down bones that are no longer up to snuff
Bone remodelling
removal of old bone by osteoclasts (resorption) and the
deposition of new bone by osteoblasts (ossification).
Burna sacs
They lubricate joints to reduce friction during movement of the joint.
Bursa sacs - Symptoms
Pain, swelling, redness, thickening of the bursae
Osteoblasts
synthesize organic bone matrix (collagen) and are the basic boneforming cells.
Bursa sacs
They lubricate joints to reduce friction during movement of the joint.
Bursa sacs - Symptoms
Pain, swelling, redness, thickening of the bursae
Bursa sacs - Cause
Injury or damage to the bursa
Bursa sacs - Risk Factors
Aging, repetitive sports or activities, improper posture, an infection that spreads to the bursae, bones and joints, injuries to the bursae
bursa sacs - Diagnosis
Physical examination (feel and squishy), X-ray, Ultrasound, blood tests from the site, needle aspiration.
