Muscular: Fibre types Flashcards
1
Q
Type 1
(slow twitched)
A
-Contracts slowly
-Contracts with less force
-Most resistant to fatigue
-Rich blood supply
-Contains many mitochondria
-High capacity for aerobic respiration
Eg Marathon & triathalon
2
Q
Type 2a
(fast twitch)
A
-Are able to produce great force when contracting
-They’re resistant to fatigue but fatigue faster than type 1
-Use oxygen
-Suited to speed, power activities
Eg 100m, gymnastics floor routine, weight training
3
Q
Type 2x
(fast twitch)
A
-Fast glycolytic fibres
-They contract rapidly
-They fatigue the quickest
-Suited to anaerobic activities
-Depend upon anaerobic respiration
-Suited for high intensity activities
Eg Shot put, javelin
