Muscles, Tissues, and Cartilage Flashcards
Made up of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It receives and interprets signals.
Nervous tissue
Found in the outer surfaces of all organs and blood vessels. It protects, absorbs, filters, and senses.
Epithelial Tissue
Found between/on muscles and joints. It holds organs in place, attatches muscles to bones, links bones and joints, and also enables other tissues.
Connective Tissue
It is attached to bone, internal organs, and the heart. It gives the body it’s ability to contract.
Muscle tissue.
An organ composed of one of the 3 types of fibrous tissue specialized for contraction to produce voluntary/involuntary movements of parts of the body.
Muscle
Flexible, connective tissue that provides shape and support to various body parts and cushions bones, allowing movement and flexibility.
Cartilage
A spongy, elastic, yellow network of fibers that provides support to the body structures.
Elastic Cartilage
The strongest type of cartilage. It provides support, rigidity, and cushioning to parts of the body.
Fibrocartilage
Hyaline cartilage attached to articular bone structure.
Articular cartilage
The strongest type of cartilage that provides support.
Fibrocartilage Callus
Muscles must have at least 2 attachments and must cross at least one joint.
The First Muscle Rule
Muscles always “pull” and get shorter.
The Second Muscle Rule
The attachment that moves is known as the insertion. The attachment that remains stationary is known as the origin.
The Third Muscle Rule
Muscles that decrease the angle of a joint are known as flexors. Muscles that increase the angle of a joint are known as extensors.
The Fourth Muscle Rule
Muscles work in opposing pairs. Example: Bicep and Tricep.
The Fifth Muscle Rule
