Muscles that rotate the forearm Flashcards
What muscles in the forearm cause pronation?
Pronator teres and pronator quadratus
What muscles cause supination?
Biceps brachii and the supinator muscle
Points of attachment of the Pronator Teres
Medial epicondyle on the humerus to the Lateral radius, distal to the point of insertion of the supinator
Points of attachment of the Pronator quadratus
The anterior surface of the distal ulna to the anterior surface of the distal radius
Points of attachment of the Supinator muscle
Lateral epicondyle and the anular ligament and the supinator crest. Inserts on the lateral third of the proximal radius (Just above the point of insertion of pronator teres)
What nerve runs throughout the supinator
The deep branch of the brachial nerve
Points of attachment of the Biceps brachii and the action of this muscle at the elbow joint
Radial tuberosity, causes supination (At the shoulder, attaches to the supraglenoid tubercle (Long head) and the coracoid process (Short head))
