Origin - lumbar vertebrae + iliac fossa of the pelvis
Insertion - lesser trochanter of the femur
Action - flexion of the hip joint, lateral rotation of the hip joint

Vastus Lateralis
Compartment - anterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
Insertion - lateral margin of patella + quadriceps femoris tendon
Action - extension of the knee joint
Innervation - femoral nerve
Vastus Intermedius
Compartment - anterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - anterior and lateral surfaces of femoral shaft
Insertion - lateral margin of patella by quadriceps femoris tendon
Action - extension of the knee joint
Innervation - femoral nerve
Vastus Medialis
Compartment - anterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera
Insertion - medial border of patella by quadriceps femoris tendon
Action - extension of the knee joint

Origin - anterior inferior iliac spine and ilium superior to acetabulum
Insertion - patella by quadriceps femoris tendon
Action - flexion of the hip joint, extension of the knee joint

Compartment - anterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - anterior superior iliac spine
Insertion - superior, medial surface of proximal shaft of tibia
Action - flexion and abduction of the hip joint, flexion of the knee
Innervation - femoral nerve
Pectineus
Compartment - anterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - pectineal line on anterior surface of pelvis
Insertion - pecteneal line on posterior side of the femur, inferior to lesser trochanter
Action - adduction and flexion of the hip joint
Innervation - femoral nerve (and obturator nerve)
Adductor Magnus
Compartment - medial compartment of the thigh
Origin - inferior rami of pubis and ischium + ischial tuberosity
Insertion - linea aspera of femur + adductor tubercle and medial supracondylar line
Action - adduction, flexion and extension of the thigh
Innervation - obturator nerve + tibial nerve
Adductor Longus
Compartment - medial compartment of the thigh Origin - body of pubis Insertion - linea aspera of femur Action - adduction of the thigh Innervation - obturator nerve
Adductor Brevis
Compartment - medial compartment of the thigh
Origin - body of pubis and inferior pubic rami
Insertion - linea aspera on posterior femur
Action - adduction of the thigh

Origin - membrane of obturator foramen
Insertion - lateral wall of trochanteric fossa
Action - lateral rotation of the thigh

Compartment - medial compartment of the thigh
Origin - inferior rami of pubis + body of pubis
Insertion - medial surface of tibia
Action - adduction of the thigh, flexion of the knee
Innervation - obturator nerve
Biceps Femoris
Compartment - posterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - ischial tuberosity + linea aspera on posterior femur
Insertion - head of fibula
Action - flexion at the knee, lateral rotation and extension of the hip
Innervation - sciatic nerve
Semitendinosus
Compartment - posterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - ischial tuberosity
Insertion - medial surface of tibia
Action - flexion of the leg, extension of the thigh, medial rotation of the leg and thigh
Innervation - tibial part of sciatic nerve
Semimembranosus
Compartment - posterior compartment of the thigh
Origin - ischial tuberosity
Insertion - medial tibial condyle
Action - flexion of the leg, extension of the thigh, medial rotation of the hip and the leg
