Muscles of the Shoulder Flashcards
What is the origin of the trap?
Superior nuchal line, occipital protuberance, spinous process of C7-T12
What is the insertion of the trap?
the clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
what innervates the trap?
accessory nerve (CN11)
what is the action of the trap?
the superior trap elevates the scap, the middle trap retracts the scapula, the inferior trap depresses the scap
what is the origin of the deltoid?
inferior spine of the scapula, lateral margins of acromion, anterior border of lateral clavicle
what is the insertion of the deltoid?
deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
what innervates the deltoid
axillary nerve (C5-C6)
what is the action of the deltoid?
anterior delt will flex and medially rotate the arm, middle delt will abduct the arm, the posterior delt with extend and laterally rotate the arm
what is the origin of levator scap?
transverse processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
what is the insertion of levator scap?
superior angle of scapula
what is the innervation of levator scap?
dorsal scapular (C5) and cervical C3,C4 nerves
what is the action of levator scap?
elevate the scapula and tilt the glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating the scapula
what is the origin of rhomboid major
spinous process of T2-T5 vertebrae
what is the origin of rhomboid minor
spinous process of C7 and T1 vertebrae
what is the insertion of rhomboid minor?
medial border of scapula above scapular spine
what is the insertion of rhomboid major?
medial border of scapula below scapular spine
what is the action of the rhomboids?
retract the scapula and rotate it to depress the glenoid cavity. Also fixes the scapula to the thoracic wall.
what are the superficial muscles of the shoulder?
trap, deltoid, levator scap, rhomboids
what are the posterior scap muscles?
supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, teres major, and long head of triceps
what is the origin of the supraspinatus?
supraspinatus fossa of the scapula
what is the insertion of the supraspinatus?
greater tubercle of the humerus
what innervates the supraspinatus
the suprascapular nerve (C5,C6)
what is the main action of the supraspinatus?
abduct the arm
what is the origin of infraspinatus?
the infraspinatus fossa of the scapula
what is the insertion of the infraspinatus
the greater tubercle of the humerus
what is the innervation of infraspinatus
the suprascapular nerve (C5,C6)
