Risorus, an inferiolateral synergist of zygomaticus.
What muscle pulls the upper lip inferiorly to open lips?
Levator labii superioris, b/w orbicular oris and inferior eye margin.
What muscle pulls lower lip inferiorly?
Depressor labii inferioris, originating from mandible to lower lip.
What muscle pulls corners of mouth inferiorly and laterally?
Depressor anguli oris, originating from mandible to corner of mouth.
What muscle closes the lips?
The orbicularis oris, a multi layered muscle w/ fibers running in a variety of directions around the mouth.
What muscle wrinkles and forms part of the chin?
Mentalis
What muscle compresses the cheeks?
Buccinator, originating from the maxilla/mandible to the orbicular oris.
What muscle tenses the skin of the neck?
Platysma, originating from fascia of the chest to the lower margin of mandible & corner of mouth - it helps to pull lower lip back and down.
What nerve innervates the muscles of the face?
Cranial VII (Facial Nerve)
