Muscles of the Arm Flashcards
Anterior muscles of the arm
Biceps Brachii
Coracobrachialis
Brachialis
Nerve Supply of Anterior Muscles of Arm
Musculocutaneous nerve supplies all muscles in this group
Biceps Brachii
PA- Short head: coracoid process of scapula.
Long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
DA- Radial tuberosity of radius & fascia of the forearm via the bicipital aponeurosis
N/S- Musculocutaneous nerve
A- supinates forearm, flexes forearm (when forearm is supinated), short head resists downwards dislocation of humerus
Coracobrachialis
PA- coracoid process of scapula
DA- middle 1/3 of medial humerus
N/S- Musculocutaneous nerve
A- assists in flexion and adduction of the arm, resists shoulder dislocation
Brachialis
PA- distal half of anterior surface of humerus
DA- coronoid process and tuberosity of ulna
N/S- Musculocutaneous nerve
A- Flexes forearm in all positions
Posterior muscles of the arm
Triceps Brachii
Anconeus
Nerve Supply of Posterior muscles of the arm
Radial nerve supplies all muscles in this group
Triceps Brachii
PA- Long head: infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula.
Lateral head: posterior surface of humerus, superior to radial groove.
Medial head: post surface of humerus, inferior to radial groove.
DA- Olecranon process of ulna
N/S- Radial nerve
A- Extension of forearm, long head prevents downward dislocation of humerus
Anconeus
PA- lateral epicondyle of the humerus
DA- olecranon of ulna
N/S- Radial nerve
A- assists triceps in extension of forearm
