Muscles of Medial Thigh Flashcards
What are the muscles in the medial compartment of the thigh collectively called?
Hip adductors
Name the 5 muscles in the medial compartment of the thigh.
Gracilis, obturator externus, adductor brevis, adductor longus, adductor magnus
What is the innervation of medial thigh muscles?
Obturator nerve (L2-L4)
What is the blood supply of the medial thigh muscles?
Obturator artery
Where is the adductor magnus found?
Posterior to the other adductor muscles
The adductor magnus is split into 2 parts. Name these 2 parts.
Adductor part and hamstring part
What is the origin and insertion of the adductor part of the adductor magnus?
Originates from the inferior rami of the pubis and ischium, attaches linea aspera
What is the origin and insertion of the hamstring part of the adductor magnus?
Originates from ischial tuberosity, attaches to adductor tubercle of femur
What is the action of the adductor magnus?
Adductor part does adduction at hip, hamstring part does extension at hip
What is the innervation of the adductor magnus?
Adductor part innervated by obturator nerve, hamstring part innervated by tibial branch of sciatic nerve
Describe the relative positions of the adductor longus, adductor brevis, and adductor magnus.
Adductor longus partially covers the adductor brevis and magnus
What is the origin and insertion of the adductor longus?
Originates from body of pubis, attaches to linea aspera
What is the action of the adductor longus?
Adduction of thigh
What is the innervation of the adductor longus?
Obturator nerve
How is the adductor brevis sometimes used as an anatomical landmark?
Lies between anterior and posterior divisions of the obturator nerve, so can be used to find these nerve branches
